“A little thought and a little kindness are often worth more than a great deal of money.”
Again, I mentioned it earlier, but the book, The Compound Effect, by Darren Hardy is a fantastic book for anyone trying to change the trajectory of their life. Okay, on to the point of this post. Last week in our achievers group, I shared some brief thoughts on how to communicate more effectively. One of the suggestions I made was to, Practice Random Texts of Kindness. I thought it was really catchy, so far I’m the only one. Anyway, the basic point is that I have been trying to start my day every morning by texting someone something that I appreciate about them. I started this as a way to make sure I was being intentional about letting people I care about know it, but it turned out to have two other huge benefits.
1. The people I’m texting are knowing what I really think about them and that positive message has been brightening their day.
2. I have felt great.
It’s crazy that when I say something GENUINELY positive about someone else, I feel great as well. What a great way to start your day. Now, it has been tough to put the word out there that I’m doing this, because if people know its happening, there is the chance that it can be perceived as contrived and artificial. But, I just continue to send them with an authentic heart and trust that people will know I care, based on the power of our relationship. Who have you not told you appreciated recently? Maybe try it out. The results are usually instantaneous! The even more ridiculous thing is it usually takes less than a minute to change the course of your morning. Give it a week and let me know what you think. Also, take some time to look through the posts on my blog. Matt Espinoza is sharing some great ideas about healthy living. Don’t miss out.
