I am working on establishing a morning routine, getting up early, reading, preparing for the day. So far I’m still in the planning stages. I have been moving as quickly on this as Congress does making any progress on anything. The truth is, I’m not a morning person. Now, since I started my Primal journey, I don’t hate mornings like I used to, but now we’re not more than acquaintances. So, I had heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And, contrary to most health information out there, this is actually true. So, the fact that so many people neglect breakfast is bad news. And, when you look at what passes for “breakfast” in this country, Yikes! What is that McDonald’s egg really made of? You know what, I don’t want to know. How about a bagel with cream cheese? Grains. Well you could start your day off with Cocoa Pebbles or the more nutritious Fruity Pebbles (you know because its fruit). I loved those sugary cereals. Unfortunately, they are basically the equivalent of pouring sugar on your spoon and eating that. And, their “healthier” cousins like Special K, Raisin Bran etc, are really no better. However, the greatest breakfast food of all time has to be the donut. Who in their right mind decided this was a good way to start the day?! Don’t get me wrong, it is a super tasty way to start the day, but sometimes I wonder how certain eating habits started. This is one I have thought about for awhile. What were other people’s reactions the first time some clown brought donuts for breakfast. Did anyone say, “Bob, why are you bringing a dessert for breakfast?” Did anyone think it was weird? I mean now its par for the course, but I have to believe at some point this was weird to people.
Anyway, I got off topic. I wanted to say I have a hard time getting up in the morning and making eggs, and ham or bacon. I just am a slow starter. If you can do that, awesome, keep it up. As for me, I need something quick, that I don’t have to think about and takes very little time to prepare, and isn’t donuts. I have found that a protein shake and some macadamia nuts have worked the best for me. You have to be careful and find the right protein shake that both tastes good and isn’t loaded with sugar and other crap. To see what I use, click here.
It is a little spendy, but for me the convenience and healthy benefits are worth it. And I eat the mac nuts while I’m drinking the shake so I feel like I’m starting my day off with dark chocolate covered macadamia nuts! Now we’re talking!
